The following names are informal names used in the oil fields of Illinois. The formal names to which the informal name relate are given.
Units that have formalized names are not listed below. Please use the search box located at the top right of any page in ILSTRAT to locate these units.

Pennsylvanian names in Southern Illinois (south of 40° North latitude)
"Anvil Rock, Cuba, Upper Dudley, Dykstra, Jake Creek, Jamestown, Pleasantview, 1st or Upper Siggins" are part of the Carbondale Formation
"Bellair 500, Bridgeport, Browning, Claypool, Lower Dudley, Isabel, Kickapoo, Petro, Robinson, 2nd or Lower Siggins, Wilson" are part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Spoon Formation)
"Bellair 800" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Burtschi" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Casey" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Mansfield" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Dagley" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"Partlow" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)
"3rd and 4th Siggins" is part of the Tradewater Formation (formerly the Abbott Formation)

"Big Clifty" is part of the Big Clifty Sandstone Member
"Jackson sand" is part of the Big Clifty Sandstone Member
"Barlow" is between the Big Clifty Sandstone Member (above) and the Cypress Sandstone (below)
"basal Golconda" is between the Big Clifty Sandstone Member (above) and the Cypress Sandstone (below)
"Weiler, Kirkwood, Carlyle, Bellair 900, Lindley" are part of the Cypress Sandstone
"upper Paint Creek sand" is part of the Ridenhower Formation
"Sample (Upper Paint Creek sand in eastern Illinois)" is part of the Ridenhower Formation
"Paint Creek sand (in western Illinois)" is part of the Bethel Sandstone
"lower Paint Creek sand" is part of the Downeys Bluff Limestone
"upper Renault" is part of the Downeys Bluff Limestone
"Benoist" is between the Yankeetown Sandstone (above) and the Renault Limestone (below)
