Name Origin

The West Baden Group (Cumings, 1922, p. 514; Gray et al., 1960, p. 44) is named for West Baden, Orange County, Indiana.

Extent and Thickness

The West Baden Group occurs in southeastern Illinois and is most useful in an area where the Ridenhower is dominantly sandstone and separation of the formations is difficult-- in places impractical (Swann, 1963).

Definition

The West Baden Group consists of the Bethel, Ridenhower, and Cypress Formations.
