Major Responsibilities:
- Perform programming in support of ISGS projects and the Illinois Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.
- Maintain and improve the ISGS GIS database in ArcSDE (SQL Server).
- Compile, maintain, and promote the distribution of GIS data and metadata over the Internet/Intranet.
- Create and maintain multiple ArcGIS Server sites to serve data driving web applications, institutional data distribution, and other data on the Illinois Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.
- Provide training on GIS data access, use, and related activities to staff.
- Maintain existing GIS data policies and procedures; recommend new policies and procedures needed to ensure proper operation of the GIS data.
- Give presentations and provide user training on GIS database, data holdings, and related topics.
- Maintain ISGS web mapping applications including Illinois Oil and Gas Resources, Illinois Water and Related Wells, Illinois Historical Aerial Photographs, and Illinois Geologic Quadrangle Maps Finder.
Research Interests:
- 2D and 3D web mapping applications and visualizations
- Data distribution on the internet
- Data collection in the field and other mobile applications
Current Research Projects:
- McHenry County Geology - virtual boreholes and cross sections derived from a solid 3D model
- LiDAR data distribution and visualization in the browser
- Illinois Geospatial Data Clearinghouse
- Illinois Oil and Gas Resources (ILOIL) and Water and Related Wells (ILWATER) web mapping applications
