40 Scouts Awarded Merit Badges in Geology

Scout Shows off rockForty Scouts recently attained new Merit Badges in Geology through the help of ISGS geologists Christopher Stohr and intern Tyler Robinson, Merit Badge Counselors at Space Jam 8. The Space Jamboree Workshop, better known as Space Jam, was held at the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, on August 1–3. This year, the event attracted almost 2,000 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and their families, as well as leaders and instructors, from 23 states and three countries. The event is organized by Troop 17 of Champaign and Crew 272 of Fountain County, Indiana, and is the largest technology-oriented gathering of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the Midwest. The purpose of Space Jam is to support Scouts in becoming scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, teachers, musicians, and technicians—as well as the next generation of geological scientists.
